About This Project

The Paul Bert railway bridge in Lyon now features a new lighting design. This renovation project aims to enhance the site’s atmosphere by combining functional lighting with architectural enhancement.

The intervention focuses on the underside of the deck. It highlights the structure’s rhythm through a colorful and graphic lighting scheme. The design reveals the textured concrete surfaces, creating clearly defined horizontal and vertical lines.

The lighting concept draws inspiration from bayadère fabric—a striped, colorful textile linked to Lyon’s textile heritage. These irregular stripes add energy and break the visual compression caused by the bridge’s perspective. The result is a vibrant and engaging lighting ambiance.

To enrich the experience, multiple lighting scenarios are available. During the week, static lighting creates a calm and serene environment. On weekends, dynamic effects bring the structure to life, adding movement and visual interest.

This lighting system guides pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers as they pass beneath the bridge, offering a renewed and expressive perception of the structure.
