About This Project

Place de la République in Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine is no longer just a traffic intersection. Reducing vehicle lanes has calmed the space and shifted the focus to pedestrian use. It also opened the door for lighting better suited to a human and urban scale.

The new lighting now supports soft mobility and enhances the nighttime atmosphere. A single range of luminaires is used for the roadways, pedestrian paths, and bike lanes. All poles are installed at a height of 5 meters, providing a unified and balanced lighting scheme. A warm 3,000 K color temperature ensures a consistent, welcoming glow throughout the site.

The project also follows an energy-conscious approach. The luminaires are “Zhaga Ready,” compatible with future smart lighting systems. From today, brightness is automatically reduced by 20% at 10 p.m., then by 50% at 1 a.m.

Two landmark buildings have also been illuminated:

  • The town hall, built in 1865, is lit with a warm tone. The lighting highlights architectural details—columns, the crest, and the “Mairie” inscription.
  • The social and administrative center, with its curved red brick façade, benefits from vertical lighting that reveals its form and secures the entrances.
  •

Ultimately, this lighting design delivers a unified vision for the public space—more readable, more energy-efficient, and more welcoming. It combines technical precision, heritage enhancement, and sensitivity to daily uses.
